Frankincense Essential Oil Benefits

Frankincense has extraordinary health benefits.* Ancient Egyptians used Frankincense resin for everything from perfume to salves for soothing skin. Its calming and beautifying properties are used to rejuvenate skin and help reduce the appearance of imperfections when applied topically. As the king of oils, Frankincense is known to support healthy cellular, immune, nervous, and digestive function when used internally.*

Plant Description

Frankincense oil is produced from the resin of the Boswellia sacra tree. The resin of a tree is a sap-like substance with a high viscosity. For centuries, the resin of the tree has been obtained by slashing or making an incision into the tree, which then emits large amounts of resin. After the resin secretes from the tree, it is then scraped off or collected as it drips onto the ground. The trees are carefully scored or “bled.” From there, the resin is delicately distilled and essential oils are extracted.

Chemistry of Frankincense Oil

Main Chemical Components: α-pinene, limonene, α-thujene

Frankincense oil contains a complex mixture of monoterpenes such as alpha-pinene, Limonene, alpha-Thujene, and beta-Pinene. This intricate mixture of components works together to make an oil with many uses and benefits. The unique chemical constituents contribute to Frankincense essential oil’s renewing effects when applied topically and ability to support diverse cells in the body when taken internally.* The monoterpenes also contribute to the aromatic benefits of Frankincense essential oil, including its ability to promote relaxation and a sense of focus.

Sourcing 

There are dozens of species of Boswellia trees, but only four produce true frankincense essential oil—carterii, frereana, sacra, and papyrifera.

Clary Sage Essential Oil Benefits

This herbaceous oil can be used for a variety of purposes both externally and internally. Clary Sage oil is known as one of the most relaxing, soothing, and balancing essential oils when used internally. Topically, Clary Sage oil calms and soothes the skin. Clary Sage oil can also be applied to promote healthy-looking hair and scalp. 

Plant Description

Clary Sage is a biennial or perennial herb that is fast growing. In the first year of growth, the base of the plant produces medium-green, course leaves. In its second year of growth, the Clary Sage plant yields flowers from stalks with upright spikes. These flowers are either violet or white in color. Clary Sage oil is extracted from the flower. 

Chemistry of Clary Sage Oil

Main Chemical Components: Linalyl acetate, linalool  

The main chemical components of Clary Sage oil are linalool and linalyl acetate. Linalool is a powerful constituent that can affect both the mood and the body. When Linalool enters this system, it acts on multiple receptors. Because multiple receptors are targeted, the effects of linalool are more potent and long lasting than molecules that target only one receptor. This effect supports the brain chemistry balance in these receptors, which has the effect of reducing sad feelings.* Linalool used internally is also thought to promote relaxation in the body. In addition to linalool, linalyl acetate contains relaxing and soothing properties when used internally because enzymes in the body metabolize linalyl acetate to linalool.5 Linalyl acetate is also part of the esters group, making it one of the most relaxing, soothing, and balancing essential oils.

We use Organic MCT Oil in this blend to increase the bioavailability of CBD.

Internally: MCT oils work to increase the benefits of CBD by increasing CBD’s bioavailability and allowing more CBD to reach the bloodstream.

Topically: Pure medium chain triglycerides contain naturally-occurring antioxidants and fatty acids to nourish and moisturize hair and skin. This oil relieves dry skin without a heavy, sticky, or greasy feel and boasts emollient, moisturizing and gentle benefits.
